All Praise Adele

I don’t know if any of you out there watched The Grammy’s last night, but one moment stuck out for me in a big way.  I’m not talking about Mother Mary Beyoncé and her performance that didn’t make all that much sense to me, but the moment where Adele won Album of the Year for her amaaaazing work on 25.  Yes, she praised Beyoncé in it, but it’s what she said before her praise that really stuck with me.

“Five years ago when I was last here, I was pregnant and I didn’t know … and in my pregnancy and through becoming a mom I lost a lot of myself.  I mean I’ve struggled, and I still do struggle being a mom, it’s really hard.  But tonight winning this kind of feels full circle and like a bit of me has come back to myself.”

CAN I GET AN AMENNNNNNNNNNNNNN.  I just have to say that hearing someone as successful and wonderful and RICH AND FAMOUS as Adele use the Grammy stage to point out the fact that becoming a mother is hard and a constant struggle is AMAZING TO ME.  The fact that someone who could hire all of the help possible admit that she lost a bit of herself becoming a mom makes me feel like I am not alone.  The fact that she admits that it is STILL a struggle even though her son is 4 years old now is beautiful.  So I just really want to say thank you to Adele, even though you will never read this, thank you.  Thank you for making this not so rich and famous mom feel validated in her insecurities when it comes to being a mom.  Thank you for  making me feel not so alone when I wonder if I’m doing anything right, or wondering how to reconcile the person I was before Charlotte to the person I am now.

Moms, we are all in this together.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it now and I’ll say it in the future.  We are a tribe.  We are all feeling the same things when it comes to being moms.  If you feel like you’ve lost yourself along the way, you can reach out and know that you’re not alone in those feelings.  Look at Adele!  Now, she had her hugely successful music career to find her way back to herself and obviously the majority of us aren’t going to be able to use that tool, but like, if you think singing will help you feel better then GET OUT THAT MICROPHONE AND DO IT.

“HELLO:PLEASE SING IN THE STYLE OF ADELE’S ORIGINAL VERSION OF HELLO, WHICH IS BETTER THAN THIS, OBVIOUSLY.”
